Magnus uses hand tools and traditional methods to produce handmade gates and fencing sweet chestnut and oak, both of which are loaded with natural preservatives.
Timber is obtained from roundwood by cleaving with the grain and shaping wood using axe and drawknife. This closes and seals the grain, adding to longevity.
No two gates are the same but two gates may be mirror twins if cleft correctly, perfect for double gates.
Magnus also installs cleft chestnut post and rail fencing. Morticed posts and tenoned rails with optional pickets. Chestnut posts will far outlast modern pressure treated softwood and make for a durable long term barrier in any situation. Ideal for amenity use in parks, gardens, historical houses, agricultural or equine, or even at home in a modern garden to give a traditional feel.
Southeast England has a large resource of sweet chestnut making this style of fencing and gates a suitable and sustainable boundary in London and surrounding areas.
